Frequently asked questions

How do I cancel my subscription?

FamilAI subscriptions are billed by Apple, not by us. On your iPhone, open Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions, tap FamilAI, then tap Cancel Subscription. Your access continues until the end of the current billing period.

How do I delete my account?

Open FamilAI, go to Settings → Delete Account, and confirm. Deletion is immediate and removes all of your stories, transcripts, family-tree data, and account record from our backend. Backups are purged within 30 days.

Cancelling your subscription does not delete your account, and deleting your account does not cancel an Apple subscription — do both if you want to fully stop using FamilAI.

What is the free / manual mode?

Every FamilAI user has the free tier. You can add family members and the relationships between them, type in stories and quotes by hand, and browse everything by person or theme. No subscription required, no time limit, no ads.

What requires the AI subscription?

The AI subscription (€9.99 / month, no free trial) unlocks:

  • Guided recording with on-device transcription.
  • Automatic extraction of people, places, and events from a story.
  • Suggested follow-up questions to keep a conversation going.
  • Quote extraction across your library.
  • The family book preview.

You can subscribe and unsubscribe at any time from inside the app.

Does FamilAI upload my audio?

No. Voice recordings stay on your iPhone. Transcription runs locally using Apple’s on-device Speech framework. If on-device transcription is not available for your locale or device, the recorder fails closed with a clear message rather than sending audio to a cloud service.

Only the resulting text is sent to our AI (Claude, via our Supabase Edge Function) to identify people and events. See the Privacy Policy for the full picture.

How do family invites work?

When you create a family in FamilAI, you can share an invite code with a relative. They install the app, enter the code, and join your family group — everyone in the family can see and add stories.

Invites are scoped to one family. You can leave a family or remove members from Settings → Family.

How do I get a refund?

Refunds for App Store subscriptions are handled by Apple, not by us. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com using the Apple ID you used to subscribe.

If you tried Apple and they were unable to help, write to support@familai.app — we will look at the case.

How do I report a bug or request a feature?

Email support@familai.app with a short description, the iOS version, and the FamilAI version (Settings → About). Screenshots help. We read every message.

What if I lose access to my Apple ID?

FamilAI uses Sign in with Apple, so your account is tied to your Apple ID. If you lose access to that Apple ID, contact Apple Support first; if your data has been backed up to the FamilAI cloud, we may be able to help you recover it — write to support@familai.app.
